Daughters of the Earth – Unfiltered Portraits of Women

A long-term project by Eva María Horstick (2010–2022 and ongoing)

Honest. Raw. Dignified.

Since 2010, Eva María Horstick has been photographing women and girls from diverse backgrounds – without makeup, without filters, without staging. Her long-term series Daughters of the Earth gives visibility to female identity in all its complexity and truth.

Whether models or non-models, teenagers or elderly women – Horstick portrays them with a clear gaze and deep sensitivity. What remains when all social expectations are stripped away? These portraits answer not with perfection, but with presence.

Between 2010 and 2022, the project evolved into a quiet visual archive of female dignity. The work addresses themes like body image, self-worth and cultural heritage. At the center of it all: the woman as a sovereign being, as a daughter of this earth.

After the pandemic, Horstick continues the project. New portraits are emerging – just as radically honest as before. Visibility does not end with a crisis. On the contrary: it often begins in its aftermath.
